DRINK THE BEER. LEARN THE HISTORY.
Doll's Garden is the product of an intentional collaboration, bringing together a cultural institution, a historic site, and two Black-owned breweries to create something that could not have been made alone.
Brewed with ingredients grown at 18th century Mount Vernon, Doll’s Garden blends historical storytelling with contemporary craft brewing. Persimmons, once grown in the estate's orchards, reflect the gardens, preservation practices, and agricultural knowledge maintained by enslaved workers whose contributions helped sustain daily life at Mount Vernon.
The beer is a bright, approachable 5.4% ABV blonde ale rooted in history and invites conversation about the people whose labor shaped America, yet whose stories have too often been overlooked.
This project was made possible through a partnership between the Beer Culture Center, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Funkytown Brewery, and Soul Mega. Together, these organizations are using beer as a vehicle for public history, education, storytelling, and cultural preservation. Special thanks to Mike Stein for his invaluable contributions to this important project.
Every pint of Doll’s Garden is an invitation to engage more deeply with the stories often left untold.
