Between exploding eyeballs and stealing everything in sight, Saint Brigid was busy having miraculous brew days and turning water into ale. An 11th-century poem attributed to her quipped that she viewed heaven as a giant lake of ale with people drinking it down for “all eternity.”

Ale and brewing played a critical role in medieval Ireland, in both their social hierarchy and religious rituals. And the life of Saint Brigid provides a key starting point to understanding it all. Join Dr. Christina Wade, a member of the Brewseum’s League of Historians, for a talk that examines brewing in lay and monastic communities during the early Irish Middle Ages.
