Join us for a special after-hours night at the museum.

This cultural and casual adults only evening at the National Museum of Mexican Art allows guests to explore the museum on their own. But we’ll also have a special treat: at 6pm, Cesáreo Moreno, Chief Curator and Visual Arts Director, will lead a special tour of their newest exhibition, Into the Hourglass, only on view until August 10th.

An after-hours party needs a bit of beer. Our friends at Guinness Open Gate Brewery will be bringing some of their special brews for this summer evening celebrating beer, art, and collaboration. Guests will enjoy Salt + Lime Ale, A Lovely Day For Love Cherry Lager, and Fonio Stout, a collaboration with Brooklyn Brewery.

This event is free and is 21+ only.

Into the Hourglass is a traveling exhibition from the National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It celebrates paños (Spanish for handkerchief) as an art form and the contributions of incarcerated artists to the broader fields of Chicano and American art while examining the topic of incarceration in contemporary society.

Paños are ink or pencil drawings rendered on handkerchiefs, pillowcases, or sheets. They reference a variety of subject matter, including historical themes, religion, popular culture, la pinta (prison life), family, and more. The exhibition pulls from the collection of over 300 paños amassed by the late collector and community advocate Rudy Padilla (1951-2006).

The Art Museum at the NHCC acquired the Rudy Padilla Paño Collection in 2019, the most extensive U.S. public collection of its kind.
